The Dirt on Vegan Cleaning Products

It’s safe to say the general public are slowly becoming more eco-conscious, green consumers. Scientists and environmental activists have been shouting for a while now and finally, the masses are starting to listen. Here at Clean Clean, all our cleaning products are plant-based, vegan, and cruelty-free certified. However, as a whole, society is still not where we want it to be in terms of both the education provided around vegan cleaning products and their general accessibility. Even the thought of finding actual vegan cleaning products can seem overwhelming, and rightfully so. The sleight of hand, or should we say, ‘of word’, that many companies use keeps the truth from well-meaning, eco-centric consumers looking to make a safe, vegan, and cruelty-free cleaning purchase. Therein lies the problem. Defining what a vegan cleaning product actually is. No need to worry though because we’re going to dive right in, share our Clean Clean expertise, and explain it all.

So, what’s in a name?

To qualify as ‘vegan’ a product only needs to be free from animal products. Basically, even if their manufacturing process involved animal byproducts and their ingredients were tested on animals at some point, companies are still allowed to claim vegan status. Cruelty-free certification from 3rd-party companies, like Clean Clean’s PETA Beauty Without Bunnies certification, cover issues such as ingredient sourcing, manufacturing, company partners and their funding efforts, and the obvious, product testing. For example, even some commonly used plant-based ingredients are irresponsibly sourced, causing harm to animal habitats in the process. On the surface, a product with a plant-based ingredient seems both vegan and cruelty-free, and yet upon further inspection, they may not be. This is why the decision-making process can seem nearly impossible, not to mention extremely time-consuming. To truly know if a product is cruelty-free, look for one of only four certifications that cover all the above: PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies, two different Leaping Bunny certifications, and Choose Cruelty-Free (CCF). PETA’s certification is free to obtain, which begs the question, if cleaning products are claiming cruelty-free or vegan status, why aren’t they certified?

A healthy planet starts at home

Beyond the desire to end animal abuse in all its forms, vegan cleaning products are a safe alternative to the all too often used harsh chemicals found in most household cleaning supplies. The safety of your family and pets lies within a bottle of harsh irritants and synthetic ingredients that, after sprayed, spread throughout your home. Clean Clean’s products are plant-based and use FDA-approved ingredients, making them safe even for most individuals with allergies. Furthermore, by purchasing a vegan cleaning product from Clean Clean, you’re cutting your household cleaning waste by 90%, something our shared Mother Earth would be incredibly pleased with. The improper disposal of chemical-based household cleaners creates another level of possible animal-cruelty that vegan cleaning products should be held accountable for if they choose to use the classification. As we all know, a lot of non-recyclable and non-biodegradable plastics end up in our oceans. Our Clean Clean packaging and bottles are made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials, ensuring every step of our process, from manufacturing to disposal, is truly eco-friendly.

Environmentally friendly and effective

The widespread myth that only harsh chemicals can kill bacteria is false and unfortunately perpetuated by the same companies selling the products. At Clean Clean, we only use all-natural, sustainable, and environmentally-friendly ingredients. The base of our vegan cleaning products is made from Soapbark  extract, coconut amino acids, and grain ethanol. Soapbark extract and grain ethanol are both naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, ensuring your sustainable choice is a no-sacrifice one for the health and safety of your loved ones. To all of us at Clean Clean, ‘vegan’ is a multi-faceted description we’re proud to portray as truth. To wholly be a vegan cleaning product, it needs to cause no harm to our planet or any of it's living beings, including ourselves. The loose term applied to other ‘vegan’ cleaning products didn’t sit right with us, which is why we went our own way and made our own line. We believe the small choices we make in our everyday lives are what make the biggest difference. Therefore, Clean Clean’s mission is to simplify and promote the transition to vegan cleaning products as a safe and effective step towards a greener, more environmentally-friendly existence.
