ARE CONCENTRATED CLEANERS BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

HOW DO CONCENTRATED CLEANERS CONSERVE WATER?

It’s estimated that 90% of traditional household cleaners are just water. Removing the excess and wasteful water leaves behind a concentrated cleaner that works just as well, if not better. Some concentrated cleaners boast of a savings of up to 21 gallons through just one container. 

Concentrated cleaners such as laundry detergents can be added directly to your laundry without the need for adding water of your own. Concentrated cleaners such as multi-purpose sprays require the consumer to add water themselves as recommended by the label. This gives the consumer more freedom in tinkering with a mixture that works best for their cleaning needs.

HOW DO CONCENTRATED CLEANERS REDUCE WASTE?

Only about 5% of plastic produced is actually recycled, which is a number that has likely dropped since China no longer accepts plastic wastes from the United States. With this in mind, concentrated cleaners help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our landfills by reducing the overall volume of the container. 

Not only do concentrated cleaners reduce plastic waste, but they also reduce the size of the labels on each container. It may not seem like much, but recent studies show that adhesives on labels, including concentrated cleaners, contain a toxic chemical called PFAS. PFAS is a man-made chemical group that damages the liver, thyroid, and more.

Smaller labels also result in less ink. Inks on the labels of concentrated cleaners themselves may be water-based and nonhazardous, but cleaning the lines at manufacturing facilities requires the use of solvents that in turn produce hazardous waste. 

HOW DO CONCENTRATED CLEANERS REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS?

Freight trucks travel billions of miles per year and are subsequently responsible for contributing up to 7% of all corporate greenhouse gas emissions. Maritime transport accounts for approximately 2.5% of global greenhouse emissions in total and that number is expected to increase. Concentrated cleaners help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions thanks to their small package sizes. 

Concentrated cleaners come in small containers in comparison to traditional cleaners. This frees up valuable space on cargo ships and semi-trucks, ultimately reducing the carbon footprint of the product. The small container size also benefits consumers with limited storage space. 

Additionally, one container of a concentrated cleaner will last significantly longer than a traditional cleaner. Most traditional laundry detergents last only 32 loads on average. One container of a concentrated cleaner can last upwards of 80 loads. This means fewer trips to the supermarket to stock up on laundry detergent, which translates to less greenhouse gas emissions from your vehicle. 

IN SUMMARY

Concentrated cleaners are superior to traditional cleaners in many ways. Concentrated cleaners are a better value, free up storage space for consumers, and give the consumer freedom to create a blend that fits within their cleaning needs.

Concentrated cleaners are also significantly better for the environment than traditional cleaners. Concentrated cleaners conserve water, reduce plastic waste from packaging, reduce hazardous wastes from inks, reduce harmful PFAS chemicals on labels from entering the environment, and reduce greenhouse emissions from freight shipments.
